ALL POOLED UP!

( Atlantic salmon pooled up on the Grand Pabos in Quebec)
( moi with a 38 lb er taken on a Labatt Blue grizzly rubber legs on the surface)

IT HAS BEEN A RELENTLESS SUMMER WITH HEATWAVES, DROUGHTS, FLOODS- YOU NAME IT! 104 F temperatures in Moscow Russia and the Kola Atlantic salmon country, heat in the Canadian Maritimes- Gaspe, Newfoundland, the entire U.S.

So, what are the trout, salmon and steelhead doing? They are all pooled up-deep spring -fed holes, tailwater discharges, spring seeps and spring creeks.Find 'em and you'll find fish.

After a very brief cool down, Michigan streams are doing o.k. We are in for another batch of welcomed storms and rain. Still waiting for the big cool down. Summer steelhead need a big lake turn-over to bring in the mother lode of the run- they are out there-trust me!

Caddis need cooler temps to be more consistent in emergence.

SO...................THE GOOD NEWS?- it only can get better and cooler.

In the mean time, find the pools and cool water and you'll find the fish. Be careful on handling them, fight them fast and don't hold them out of the water too long- save the pics for when it gets cooler.

ICE,ISO,BABY-IT'S................ISO!

( "Gaspe Tommy" with a nice rainbow taken on an Iso wiggle)
( Isonychia resting from the wind and cold on my bug net last night)

( nice bow on an Iso emerger/dun)

( river looks healthy ,full and green again!!!!)

Cool, wet ,water in the river........ahhhh!- that's a perfect Michigan spring for bugs and trout. Had Tom Harkness from Ferndale last night. Tom is an Atlantic salmon guru who is known for his 30 lb Atlantics in the Gaspe at Camp Boneventure. We had good numbers of Isonychias(the most awesome may fly) and the trout were hitting these fat beefsteak bugs with a vengeance till the rain, cold and wind got stronger.

Flows at a nice 2200 cfs -river looks green and healthy and the next few weeks should see the hatches peak

Cheers!
